Benefits Liberty offers to Military students
Liberty University is proud of the courageous men and women who actively serve our country. Because of this, we offer special benefits to our military students in order to better help them to achieve their academic and professional goals.
Who Qualifies as a Military Student?
All active service members (qualify after basic training is completed), Department of Defense employees, Veterans (honorable/general discharge), and military spouses have the opportunity to qualify for the benefits listed below. Benefits only apply to Liberty University Online military students (students enrolled in the residential program or Wilmington School of the Bible do not qualify).

Technology Fee Waiver
All qualified military students who enroll in at least 6 hours per term (in any combination of sub-terms), will receive a $150 technology fee waiver for the semester. Students who drop below 6 credit hours in a term will be assessed the technology fee of $150.
Military Book Voucher
Undergraduate, military students and spouses
All qualified military students and spouses are given a military book voucher worth $100-400 based on the number of courses taken per term. This is provided as a free benefit from Liberty to all undergraduate military students, and is not based upon any outside aid. Contact your new enrollment specialist for more information.
- 1-5 credit hours $100
- 6-8 credit hours $200
- 9-11 credit hours $300
- 12+ credit hours $400
Note: Any unused book vouchers will be zeroed out at the end of the term and cannot be reimbursed. Courses dropped before the start date will result in a cancellation of the book voucher credit.
Military Tuition Discount
Online, military students and spouses
All qualified Online military students and spouses are given a discount to bring their tuition down to $250 per credit hour. This applies to Associates, Bachelors, and Masters level programs, as well as the Doctorate of Education. This tuition discount keeps tuition within the TA cap per credit hour.
If you qualify for this benefit and would like to apply, please fax the request with a copy of the documentation mentioned below, to the Office of Military Affairs, Fax: 434-455-1287:
- Service Members, Veterans and DOD Personnel – submit copy of DD-214, discharge certificate, or military orders
- Military Spouses – Copy of marriage certificate with spouse’s DD-214
Tuition Assistance (TA)
Tuition Assistance (TA) is a benefit offered to service members in the military to assist with the cost of tuition and fees. TA typically covers up to $250 per credit hour with a maximum of $4,500 a year. Liberty is partnered with GoArmyEd in order that Army students may receive up-front aid.

Department of Veteran Affairs (VA)
Liberty is authorized to certify students who qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill (Active Duty/Selected Reserves) and Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program, as well as those who qualify for VA Vocational Rehabilitation.

Heroes Fund Scholarship
The Heroes Fund Scholarship is offered to service members and veterans who were wounded in the Gulf Wars. This includes men and women who served in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Spouses of soldiers who were killed in action during these conflicts are also eligible for this scholarship.
Students approved for this scholarship will be awarded an amount to cover all remaining tuition and fees once financial aid, military aid, and Veteran Affairs benefits have been deducted from the total amount. Learn more on our Heroes Fund Scholarship webpage.
Evaluation of Military Training for College Credit
Undergraduate, military students only
Liberty offers a free evaluation of military training and experience for college credit. All credit granted for military training is given based on the American Council on Education (ACE) guide recommendations.

Member of the SOC Network
Liberty is authorized to issue SOCAD, SOCMAR, SOCNAV, and SOCCOAST degree maps which allow military students and their spouses to easily transfer to Liberty from other schools affiliated with the SOC network. Courses taken from Liberty are recognized and accepted by the military, businesses, industries, colleges, and universities around the world.

Military Support Office
The Military Affairs Office at Liberty University employs a team of specialists that provides student guidance on any military and veteran benefits you may qualify for — Tuition Assistance, GI Bill, Yellow Ribbon Program, Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation, Dependents Educational Assistance and Military Spouse Career Advancement — and ensures benefits are processed swiftly and smoothly.
